COMO Maalifushi
India, Reefscape Travel Director"COMO Maalifushi is the only resort in this atoll, meaning that divers will have the reefs all to themselves. Being further south in the Maldives, the coral health is also some of the best in the country."
Overview
Located in the Thaa Atoll, COMO Maalifushi is a very special resort which caters perfectly to those looking for high service levels, beautiful accommodation and spectacular diving. This small resort is nestled among lush green foliage, with a relaxed barefoot luxury feel.
In Depth
In typical COMO fashion, this 65-room resort radiates elegance and luxury in an understated fashion, with rooms being light and airy with generous space both indoors and out, including an outdoor shower and large sunken tub in the bathroom. The design is clean and calm, with cool tones that fit seamlessly in with the Maldivian environment. Whether you prefer to be over the water or nestled among the greenery with direct beach access, there is a room that works for everyone and all of them have their own private pools – a rarity in the Maldives. Maalifushi permeates a sense of relaxation and wellness, with this being a core part of their ethos, and their overwater spa is one of the best in the Maldives.
When it comes to dining, there are a few options on the island, with the main area hosting Thila and Madi; more relaxed restaurants offering an array of cuisines. Live cooking stations will be set up here a couple of nights per week, with themed nights showcasing local Maldivian cuisine, Asian fusion dishes or Mediterranean spreads. Tai is the Japanese sunset-facing overwater restaurant open three nights per week and this showcases sustainably caught local seafood.
The Diving
The dive centre here is run exceptionally well by a passionate team of divers. The diving in Thaa Atoll is among the best in the Maldives, whether divers opt to meander along the house reef or venture out to the channels where larger pelagic species can be encountered.
Diving in the southern Maldives is perfect for novice or experienced divers, with excellent visibility, good coral health and the chance to see reef favourites such as turtles, eagle rays, sting rays and a plethora of reef fish. Baby black tip sharks cruise the shallows.
Beyond the Reef
There is a wealth of additional activities on offer including non-motorised watersports, snorkelling excursions, secluded beach picnics and dolphin cruises. For families we’d recommend getting involved with the sunset ‘splash cruise’ followed by sunset drinks on a private dhoni. For honeymooners, we can arrange a night sleeping under the stars with a private sunset dinner and a bottle of champagne.
