Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru
"Landaa has an excellent Marine Discovery Centre with pioneering research including the ‘Reefscapers’ program, Turtle-rehabilitation, the Manta Trust, all led by a team of passionate Marine Biologists" - Louisa, Reefscape Travel Director
Overview
Landaa Giraavaru, meaning ‘moving sands’ in Maldivian, is one of the most beautiful islands and named so for the large movement of white powdery sand around the island across the seasons. One result of this is the seemingly endless sand spit that appears at low tide, joining the sand bar with the main island. The resort is a leader in the Maldives in terms of Marine Research and as such, a haven for divers and ocean-goers. Being a Four Seasons, naturally the resort caters for couples and families alike with plenty of space for all.
In Depth
Being one of the larger islands in the Maldives, one of the things we love most about the Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru is the feeling of space and privacy, meaning families, couples and honeymooners can harmoniously co-exist with little knowledge of the other being there. The villas and bungalows are a perfect blend of contemporary design with ancient Maldivian building and Sri Lankan forms. This has resulted in airy, authentic buildings with 45-degree high-thatched roofs and traditional coral walls amongst tropical gardens or over turquoise waters.
Bicycles are the key mode of transport on the island so no time is wasted zipping from the dive centre to the bar for a post-dive beer. The resort has a number of different dining options including Blu Beach Club with views of the sand-spit and lagoon, Al Barakat with flavours of Lebanon, Morocco and Armenia, Café Landaa (Asian and regional specialities) and Fuego Grill with a wide selection of eats and catch of the day, with your toes in the sand at this beachfront location.
The Diving
The on-site PADI 5* Dive centre offers a range of courses and dive schedules to suit any diver. Daily two-tank dives are offered in the morning and single tanks in the afternoon, plus the option for sunrise, night and other specialty dives that we can arrange for you. Migrating mantas and whale sharks are particularly prolific in the Baa Atoll between June and October, and specifically Hanifaru Bay. The team of expert instructors alongside the Marine Discovery Centre will enable exciting diving adventures whatever your level.
Beyond the Reef
The watersports centre is located at the western end of the island on Blu Beach, where the sand spit begins from. The huge lagoon, sand spit and sand bar make for the perfect ocean playground, whether you want to take out a kayak, paddleboard or for more adrenaline, wakesurfing or x-jetpacks. For those looking to relax, AuyrMa is made up of a multi awarding-winning team of Ayurvedic Doctors, Naturopaths ad Yoga Therapists with a huge array of spa, yoga, wellness and Ayurvedic treatments.
